I have the original Licence Key.Figure 2. I have been provided with a newer iMac (only 7 years old) that runs the latest OSX upgrade from Apple I want to reinstall Office-for-Mac on this system. Tip: If you see an error that says the MicrosoftOffice2016Installer.pkg can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer, wait 10 seconds and then try double-clicking the installer package again. My system can no longer use the latest Apple version of OSX. The eventual fix was for Microsoft to install a new copy and reset my Microsoft Account.Install Office 2016 on a Mac Once the download has completed, open Finder, go to Downloads , and double-click MicrosoftOffice2016Installer.pkg (the name might vary slightly).Once the download finishes, click Run to start installing.I just had a look at the on-line Microsoft advisory guides for this I tried them and they are worse than useless. Your Dropbox download should automatically start within seconds. This account is your school account.Downloading Dropbox. Sign in with the account you associated with this version of Office. In a way that a person of normal intelligence but with littleSpecific Microsoft knowledge can cope with.My thanks in advance to anyone who can help.In Office 2010 and earlier the activation was explicitly tied to the hardware. In Office 2016 MS has changed the way it handles MS Office licenses. Is there any reliable information - or community advice - or (dream on) actual support to help me reinstall in a reasonable and timely way i.e. A trivial issue that could easily be handled by allowing a brief overlap period.Given the repeated problems with Authorisation etc. A major major hassle and an unreasonable practice in an industry noted for userLevel problems with installations etc. Any problems with reinstalling means I can no longer use the software I have paid for etc.
It also shows a few other things you can do in the MyAccount site. Some of the answers can also be found in this FAQ, including how to “Share” your 365 Home subscription:The “Office Install” MS support site has detailed instructions for this process. Although this is PC oriented, the basic process should be essentially the same for Mac.Stuff you can Do in MyAccount: Install / Deactivate / Transfer / Offline Installer / DowngradeThis page shows how to install Office AFTER the license has been activated. After the initial activation of the license you don't use the product key any more, you use the email account to manage your license/subscription.The wiki at the next link goes into detail how to transfer an Office installation to a new computer. In other words, you cannot edit the filesThe third step is to install on the new computer. When in that mode, you can open files and print them, but you cannot save any changes to the files. When you use the “deactivate” function, that copy of Office goes into “limited function mode”. In Office 365 you do NOT have to uninstall Office. Mac 10 for saleI will check out your recommended procedure in due course. Doug FisherThanks for your detailed reply. As computer scientists we are trained to communicate with the dumbest things in the world – computers – so you’d think we’d be able to communicate quite well with people. There youNeed it to validate your ownership by keying in, on a phone, the product key. However when activation fails - which it does too too often - and then you try to get help from MS-Support you end up with Telephone Activation. That is not true.Perhaps replace the word "don't" with "should not need to". It (a) states a complete untruth (b) assumes that the recommended procedures will work easily and (c) refers to 365.(a) You state that " After the initial activation of the license you don't use the product key any more". And Or Re Office 2016 Full Of InstallationIt is full of installation issues especially with ACTIVATION PROBLEMS. As do the on-line advisories I tried, as i mentioned.(b) have a look at the daily input to this "INSTALL OFFICE" section of the community. That procedure failed twice. How stupid can you get with software support ?. That took 1 month of being a very difficultCustomer. It is a new copy installed by MS-Support as the only way to get round the failure of AUTHORISATION. Why mention it ?(d) Please note as I mentioned that the software installed on my system is not identical with the copy I purchased. I am not using 365 or any rental product. Oligopoly offers us no choice.Help is very much appreciated. Most of us dislike intensely having to go through this Community rigmarole. Not a problem with use of the products bought legally. Please temper suggestions of help with some practicality about the real world of Microsoft Users. ACTIVATION is not a Support problem i.e. But who can guarantee that ACTIVATION now works and that little detail won't cause problemsMS-Support do a good job of fixing product problems by phone - once you can get through to them. Yes you have to do a phone activation and talk to the specialists in the activation center.Again, in theory, if you remember the email account you used to activate your Office 2016 license with, then it is relatively easy to transfer the installation to a new computer. Apparently I do not fully understand that part of the "holy mystery" of MS Office Activation.Yes, "normal" MS Support is pretty much useless when it comes to activation problems. Actually, it is my understanding that once you use the product key to complete the initial activation you can no longer use it at all. But the basic concept applies (or as you point out, is supposed to apply) to both Office 365 subscriptions and Office 2016 licenses. In theory, once you activate even Office 2016 you should not have to use the product key again. Any use of it is likely to send a user crazy.I was using a generic reply, that was focused on 365. The problem for programmers is to write code that can deal with every possible combination of circumstances - normal and abnormal. Doug FisherAnyone who understands software user problems knows that generic replies are useless. As computer scientists we are trained to communicate with the dumbest things in the world – computers – so you’d think we’d be able to communicate quite well with people. Unfortunately, I have seen many requests for help with precisely that situation, the activation system does not agree that they had an Office license activated with the email account they thought they did. In that case "your" (or whoever's) life is about to become very difficult, exactly as you experienced. But what would they know about morality or Corporate Social Responsibility.I have bought all versions of Office for the last 20 years or so. Microsoft should hang their head in shame. The ACTIVATION situation is a technical and moral disgrace. Support contracts and fixing up projects that are over budget and years late generates vast revenue and profits - as long as your contract lawyers do a good job.Your response confirms my worst fears. All it does is provide mass employment for incompetent programmers.Software suppliers and consultants are happy with that. That is why even ordinary support services ask for (or should) the relevant details before looking up the standard response guidebook = training. The great deskilling of programming with higher and higher level languages has never worked and never can. ![]()
